Zoya Handpainted Angel by Museum Selection

Vibrant, handpainted wooden angel inspired by the story 'The sun and how it was made by divine will' from Russian Folk-Tales by Alexander Nikolaevich Afanasev, 1916. The principal source for Russian folk-tales is the great collection of Afanasev, a coeval of Rybnikov, Kireyevski, Sakharov, Bezsonov, and others who from 1850-1870 transcribed from peasants of all parts of Russia what they could of the endless store of traditional songs, ballads and folk-tales. The story tells us that three angels remain with the Sun and make him ready and God has consigned one hundred angels to enrobe the Sun in an apparel and crown fit for a Tsar.
